10 Tips for Gym Motivation | Fitness

motivated - 10 tips to stay motivated whilst working out or losing weight - the tattooed princess blog10 Tips to Stay Motivated to Workout

I have been on my fitness journey now for over a year and at the moment I am at a loss of 34lbs(!!) but during that time there has been times when I have completely fell of plan and not worked out or eaten healthy for weeks, sometimes even months. It happens to everyone, we are all human but the past few weeks since my surgery I have 100% been on plan, eating well and upping the workouts, even at home! Below are my 10 top tips on how I stay motivated, and how you can stay motivated to workout too!

1. Plan your workouts – Planning your workouts for the week is a really great tip. If you schedule your workouts in, with all the meetings and cocktails – you are way more likely to stick at it!

2. Prepare the day before – Pack your gym bag, leave your gym clothes neatly piled on your dresser or even sleep in your gym wear! Preparing the night before, you are way more likely to get up and go when that alarm bell hits in the am!

3. Workout with friends – Working out with friends is a great way to stay motivated because you can both motivate each other! Knowing they will be meeting you at the gym at 6am will definitely help kick that butt out of bed, cause who wants to be that friend who flakes when trying to get a banging bod huh?!

4. Positive thoughts – Positive vibes and just having nice thoughts! Don’t beat yourself up for being too tired one night, just positive thoughts and start again the next day! Whilst losing weight is great, you want to start loving yourself too, at whatever your current size is, and that starts with just being kind to yourself!

5. Treat yourself! – Reward yourself! Nothing motivates me more than getting new gym clothes or a fancy fitness gadget! Set some goals and say when you reach them you will treat yourself, to whatever you enjoy! Could be a night at TGI Fridays with the boyfriend, a gorgeous new gym bra or even a snazzy Fitbit!

6. Find a workout you love – You will not want to workout if you hate it! Find something you enjoy, there is so much to try! Running, Spin classes, Yoga, Weightlifting or even pole dancing! You will find it and it will motivate you to because you want to and you actually enjoy it!

7. Use Social Media – I love seeing people’s progress on social media, and often post on Facebook and twitter my progress! Nothing is better than sharing your accomplishments and having friends and family congratulate you! It really is a big boost and you can see how far you have come too!

8. Motivation Wall – If you’re a visual person, a motivation wall/poster or even a board on Pinterest is a great source of inspiration! Food, workouts, even track your weight loss with pretty pictures! I have before & after pictures, motivational quotes, and a picture of me at my highest weight. You can find loads on inspiration on tumblr or pinterest, check out my boards here

9. Discipline not motivation – If you’re the kind of person who constantly is ‘looking’ for motivation to come to you. Stop. Change motivation for discipline. Make yourself go, no excuses. I definitely am one of those people who is waiting for motivation to come to me, and sometimes it can be weeks. Just shake yourself, and say ‘Cmon! I am working out and I will feel great afterwards!’

10. Think of the results – Just think of the results! Set some non-scale victorys and set a chart! Do you want to be able to run for a minute without stopping? then two? and eventually 5k?! Ticking these off your goals list will feel amazing and give you such a buzz of confidence! Nothing motivates you more than seeing yourself achieve things you didn’t think you could do, or even things you could not do a month ago!

Let me know if you use any of these tips to stay motivated or if you have any of your own tips! Let me know in the comments!

These are great tips as I always lose interest in fitness or get bored at the gym. I am doing Slimming world and really need to add some fitness in there too.

I struggle to keep at it. the only time I think I managed to maintain a routine was when I went a lunchtime at work.

  7. Stephanie Collins says

These tips are so good! Definitely agree with being prepared, I used to take my gym bag with me to work so I would go straight from there to work out. I do a certain amount of meal prep too so I have healthy foods ready for my lunch. I love rewarding myself with new gear, I get so excited to wear it to the gym next.
    Great post! Steph x.
