Fat Burners | The Facts

One of the frequently asked questions I get asked is about Supplements; What do I take, are they essential and have they aided my weight loss ect.

I have previously written about protein and you can read my thoughts on protein being essential here.

So apart from Protein, the other supplements you can use are Fat Burners and Creatine.

Fat Burners can be an extremely effective weight-loss aid, when used properly.

The first thought that comes to mind with Fat Burners are Diet Pills, or magic pills that melt fat off your body meaning you can eat what you like however this is not the case at all.

In reality, Fat Burners (or Thermogenics) are a supplement that have ingredients that can give you an extra boost to help burn fat and aid weight loss, however they cannot replace a good diet and training plan.

Thermogenic Supplements slightly increase the metabolism for a few hours after you take them, meaning that the body burns more calories even at rest. Not all Fat Burners are Thermogenics however as some products work by limiting the amount of fat being absorbed (such as ‘carb/fat blockers’).

Caffeine & Green tea are the most effective thermogenic fat-burning supplements that have evidence supporting it and are the most widely known.

As like most supplements, Fat Burners come with potential risks. Most of them can increase levels of cortisol which is a stress hormone and can worsen symptons of anxiety. They have also been linked with Liver Damage, Heart issues and overheating. Always consult your doctor and weigh up the risks.

Is it bad to take fat burners?

They are essentially supplements that contain herbs, chemicals and some also include vitamins that are used to increase energy, stimulate the metabolism and suppress the appetite.

What are fat burners used for?

What are the side effects of fat burners?

There can be side effects when taking thermogenic fat burners and these include: anxiety, insomnia, vomiting and dizziness.

I have recently been trialling Polar Nutrition Fat Burners.

Polar Nutrition Fat Burners have been specifically formulated with vitamins and minerals and are made to the highest standards to make sure you get the best results with a balanced diet. Containing a popular blend of stimulants including caffeine and glucomannan alongside green coffee bean extract.

So far I am yet to experience any side effects however I have noticed that by taking it before my work outs I feel more energised and ‘pumped’. I feel like it affects me like a pre-workout and I can push through more of my workouts.

I am trialling these whilst tracking my Macros and having coaching with Avatar Nutrition and have noticed my weight dropping.

I look forward to the end result and hopefully reaching my goal weight.

Have you ever tried Fat Burners or Carb Blockers? Would love to know your experiences!
